Artist Statement and Biography
I am an artist working mainly with textiles and mixed media. My work is inspired by simple things, fragments of blue and white pottery, finds from beachcombing, architecture, interiors, old dresses, old letters etc etc....
My recent work explores the theme of nostalgia through articles of clothing such as dresses, corsets, handbags and discarded objects. I experiment with the interpretation of stitch using a mix of different media such as metal, paper, threads, fabrics and found objects to create a rich, multi-layered surface which challenges the viewer.
Recycling plays a major role in the philosophy towards my art partly because I was brought up not to throw things out if they still had a use, hence I am a collector of many things.
I especially love old fabrics and garments as they seem to be imbued with memories of past lives.
