As we sleep we have many dreams and visit many places, some are imagined, others are part of the landscape of our past.
In the Poetics of Space Gaston Bachlard explores the relationship between the house and dreaming "the house shelters and protects the dreamer and allows the dreamer to dream in peace"
He also refers to the House of Dream Memory which is a house we recurrently visit in our dreams. I have a recurring dream where I visit the house where I was born or my memory of it.
This work consists of a collection bed springs I collected by dismantling an old mattress, which had been left in the house when we moved in. Each of the springs are wrapped in strips of fabric taken from old bedding and pillowcase ticking to create a dreamscape.
My House of Dream Memory is a vintage cotton pillowcase I have hand embroidered with the words of a poem I wrote about my own house of dream memory
