"The flower garden of the grey matter" is a famous metaphor coined by the pioneer of modern neuroscience, Santiago Ramón y Cajal, to describe the intricate, beautiful, and tree-like structures of neurons.He wrote that he hunted in this cerebral garden for "cells with delicate and elegant forms, the mysterious butterflies of the soul." He compared the process of staining and observing brain tissue under a microscope to an entomologist catching colorful butterflies in a meadow.

Although not colourful, I have crocheted fine wire to create a forest of neuron referencing the way we talk about the wiring in our brains.
